Le Grand Lieu ("the big place") is a picturesque old country property owned by Peter and Kathleen, an English couple now living in France and providing spacious and comfortable holiday cottages. The property boasts a beautiful swimming pool (fenced and gated) with sun terraces, well tended gardens and with abundant wildlife including rare birds and butterflies in the wooded area. Each property has its own, washing machine, dishwasher, digital Satellite TV, and terrace with garden furniture and barbecue area.

It is surrounded by pretty sunflower fields and countryside, ideal for walking and cycling. Fishing, canoeing, horse riding and tennis are also nearby. Wind surfing and golf, the Parc de Futuroscope, Cognac, and the coast are all within easy driving distance. Near airports, and 2 mins from a village with, bar, boulangerie and a minimarket.

Le Grand Lieu is the last property on the edge of the tiny village of Villiers Le Roux. The village is surrounded by farm land and pretty countryside, ideal for walking, cycling or just relaxing. This is also an ideal base from which to explore the many varied and interesting sights and leisure activities of the Poitou Charentes region.

In the centre of the village is a small, friendly bar/restaurant, which serves good quality home cooking. The menus are really very good value.

Probably dating from the 16th century, and full of character. Has a vaulted wine cellar, which runs two thirds of the way under one of the buildings, the original well, was used by the commune whilst they were baking their bread in the "four au pain" or buying their wine from the wine merchant in residence.

There is no shop in our village, but the nearby village of Villefagnan is four minutes by car, has a selection of shops, post office, market, restaurants, riding stables and a "plan de eau" (a man made lake) with a sandy beach where the children can play and bathe with a lifeguard present, also a play area.
